¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! PARENTS: In the Spanish class here at Willow Elementary we use an approach called Total Comprehensible Input, or TCI. Using this technique, I speak Spanish for over 90% of the time and students acquire the language naturally as opposed to any rote memorization or deep grammatical studies. TCI is an active approach to foreign language acquisition which includes storytelling, role-playing, individual and group questioning, drawing, reading, and games to aid in student learning. **Students will also be taught ASL (American Sign Language) for the majority of words we use!! STUDENTS: This class will help you to ACQUIRE Spanish (like how a baby learns a language) and be able to use Spanish rather than just memorizing information. You will be very active in class – gesturing, acting, drawing, writing, reading, answering questions in Spanish, working in groups, and of course.... HAVING FUN!! TCI RULES are as follows:
Our year long big idea and essential questions are: How can we communicate with people who speak other languages? Why is it important to acquire more than one language in a global world? What are some topics that all humans communicate about no matter where they live? All students read independently every day in Spanish. Look at your local library for simple children's books in Spanish to continue their growth at home! |
